7-day South Island Itinerary

Day One

Your journey begins in Christchurch, where your private helicopter and pilot await. Fly north toward Kaikōura for a breathtaking whale-watching encounter, spotting sperm whales, dusky dolphins, and fur seals from your aerial vantage. Touch down at your private accommodation, nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the Seaward Kaikōura Range.

Day Two

Spend the day discovering the best of coastal Marlborough and northern South Island. Choose to explore the Marlborough Sounds, an intricate maze of emerald waters and forested peninsulas, or venture toward the golden beaches of Golden Bay. We can tailor your day around your interests, from private boat charters and gourmet vineyard tastings to remote beach picnics.

Day Three

Depart Kaikōura and head inland through dramatic mountain passes toward Nelson Lakes National Park. Land by the waters of a pristine lake for a scenic stop, then continue over the Southern Alps toward the high country of the central South Island. Arrive at Flockhill Lodge, a world-class alpine retreat framed by limestone peaks and open wilderness. Spend the evening fireside with a glass of wine, taking in views of the Craigieburn Range.

Day Four

Spend the day fully immersed in station life and alpine adventure. Try your hand at clay shooting, horse riding, or fly fishing on crystal-clear streams. Your helicopter remains at your disposal, perfect for a midday glacier landing or an alpine picnic above the clouds. The day is yours to shape, balancing exploration with the refined comforts of Flockhill’s hospitality.

Day Five

Cross the Main Divide toward the West Coast’s glaciers, Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers. Continue south past Aoraki / Mt Cook, New Zealand’s highest peak, before turning inland toward the dramatic Lindis Pass.

Day Six

Fly west toward Milford Sound for a serene cruise beneath towering cliffs, or continue to the remote Jackson Bay for an exclusive crayfish charter with Jackson Bay Charters – a true New Zealand delicacy prepared fresh by your hosts Murray and Rachel on the beach.

Day Seven

Your final day offers a spectacular finale. Journey south over turquoise alpine lakes and rugged peaks, perhaps pausing for a vineyard tasting or a lakeside picnic en route. Touch down in Queenstown, where your safari concludes.
